What is internet marketing?

The Great Wall begins with a single block of brick, aligned with other bricks to create one of the wonder in the world. Similarly, to begin my first step in internet marketing, I joined the Internet Mentors Coaching Program on the 19 May 2007. I systematically acquired some basic knowledge in this area by learning the building block provided in each lesson.

19 May 2007:
The class revealed the advantages of internet marketing. One can create multiple streams of income in internet marketing by providing products, services, affliate program, drop shopping, informative/digital products (e-book, e-zines) and multi-level marketing.

One needs to determine the market, understand the target customer well, build a store front, put up a virtual store and start promoting the sites to attract visitors using keywords, traffic generation techniques and traffic conversion techniques.

The assignments are practising to use MS frontpage software in designing a one-page website, download a file transfer protocol software and provide 5 niche markets that the mind can best conceive.

26 May 2007:
Keyword research can be done with online tools on free or paid sites. The main criteria for a good keyword are high in searching demand but low in competitive providers and having the potential to be seeked by users continuously in future.

The assignment includes producing own keyword search results, begin with own interest, experience and skills, own niche market and design a webpage displaying own online business.

09 Jun 2007:
In search of niche market, one starts off with solving the problems of others (Needs), understand the keyword in search (Demand) and solution providers in market (Supply). Once the niche market is carefully determined, one has to think off 7 unique keywords or more to characterize the niche market, highlight the 10 traits of advantages that the niche market product possesses, anticipate the problems encountered by the target group and prepare the remedial solutions to the queries.

Registering a domain (like registering a company name in business world) by selecting a name synonymous to the niche market business or service, brand building, simple and brief, prefer a dot com (.com) url address.

Regisering with a host for good support service round the clock, provided by reliable company with added features is similar to renting a good shop or outlet to start a business.

Assignment given was try to work out own list of keyword research results, own domain name, own online business module.

16 Jun 2007:
The right tools for the right job provide expected efficiency and results. The tools including auto-responders (opt-in, list building, email canvassing, announcements), shopping cart, traffic conversion tools, product supports, payment gateways, affliate program, customer management, product management, announcement.

23 Jun 2007:
This module demonstrated the traffic generation techniques, traffic generation campaign, economical or cheap sources of traffic, links to high traffic sites, free ads, viral marketing, newsgroup, classified, free media exposure, etc.

How to increase traffic, organic submission, ezines, PRweb submission, blogs.

Assignments in this module are trying to upload a webpage to www, submitting organic search, ezines submission, PRweb submission, reading blogs.

30 Jun 2007:
Product Development taught us how to construct a good sale copy with selected impactful keywords to achieve desired attention and attraction to readers. Six types of products are commonly found in internet business like self-made products, services, information, drop shipping, multi-level marketing and affiliates program.

Assignment consists of writing our own sale copy, testimonials and about ourselves.

07 July 2007:
How to start an ebay business? ebay provides a big platform, exposure and opportunity for buyer and seller of online business to meet in the cyber space. After registered with ebay which is free, we open a Paypal account to facilitate monetary transactions in the virtual world. We have to decide the products or services we want to sell, find out what is in hot demand, think of a killer title, prepare a compelling sale copy, snap a fabulous photo of the products, determine the price, choose the auction format if necessary, specify the payment methods, complete the sale with invoice, thank your buyers and ask for positive feedbacks.

Things to do: Find an item to sell.
28 July 2007:
Blogging for opportunities. Blogging is becoming a popular and good way to get into contact with potential buyers to online business. We were introduced to find a topic that interest us the most to begin with, do the keyword research and sign up a blog account. Feeds can be added to our blogs with features like selecting, creating chicklets, pingshot. An introduction on Google Adsense was given for offering a chance to generate extra income and enrich the visitors' readings with useful relevant ads.
